Consulting
Technology decisions with lasting impact.
The decisions we are asked to guide are the ones organisations live with for a decade — platforms, architectures, standards, systems of record. We treat them with the seriousness that implies.

Consulting, led by engineers
Arqentek is an engineering-led consultancy. Our advice is built on evidence, architecture and long-term thinking — not on slideware.
A recommendation you cannot build is speculation. Everyone who advises at Arqentek has designed, built and operated serious systems, and every recommendation we make is one we would be prepared to implement ourselves. That single constraint changes what we are willing to put in writing.
We are deliberately not a traditional management consultancy. We take fewer engagements, staff them with senior people, and measure success by whether the decision still holds when we are no longer in the room.
What we help organisations achieve
Decisions that hold
Choices examined thoroughly enough — options, constraints, consequences — that they do not need to be revisited under pressure.
Architecture that survives change
Structures designed for the requirements that will move, so growth and correction do not mean starting again.
Risk made visible
The uncomfortable findings in writing, early — before they become delivery failures or audit findings.
Independence from us
Decisions, standards and records that your teams own and can carry forward without waiting for anyone, including us.
Our consulting capabilities
Six disciplines, practised together. Most engagements draw on more than one; all of them end in a written record.
Technology strategy & decision support
Framing the decision, examining the options against evidence, and recording a recommendation that can be challenged and defended.
Solution & enterprise architecture
Designing systems and estates that hold their shape as requirements, teams and vendors change.
Engineering governance & standards
Decision logs, architecture records, engineering standards and review gates — proportionate to risk, not ceremony for its own sake.
System & platform assessment
Independent examination of an existing system, platform or codebase — for acquisition, assurance, or the honest state of what you own.
Security & risk advisory
Security treated as an engineering property: threat-led, designed in, and evidenced — not appended at the end.
Delivery assurance
Standing beside a programme already in flight: validating that what is being built matches what was decided, while there is still time to correct it.
Our engagement approach
Advisory work follows the same discipline as our delivery work. The order never changes; the depth is matched to the weight of the decision.
Frame
Agree, in writing, the decision actually being made — and what would count as evidence either way.
Examine
Study the systems, the constraints and the people who operate them. First-hand, not by questionnaire.
Test
Put the options under pressure — technically, operationally, commercially — before any of them is recommended.
Record
Deliver the recommendation as a governed record: the reasoning, the rejected alternatives, and the conditions under which it should be revisited.
Stand behind it
Remain accountable as the decision is implemented — and say so plainly if the evidence changes.
Evidence & governance
Our advice arrives as working documents, not presentations.
Every engagement produces a decision log, architecture decision records, and a risk register — the same instruments we use to govern our own engineering. Superseded decisions stay in the record, struck through, with the reasoning that replaced them. Years later, anyone can see not just what was decided, but why, and what it was weighed against.
This is what makes our advice auditable. It can be challenged line by line, inherited by a new team, or examined by a regulator — without anyone needing to call us first.

Technology domains
We advise only in domains where we have built and operated systems ourselves.

Why Arqentek
Because the people advising you are engineers, and the advice behaves like engineering: examined before it is given, written down when it is given, and owned after it is given. We will tell you when the answer is "don't" — including when the answer is "don't hire us."
We advise the way we build — deliberately.
Questions we are often asked
How is Arqentek different from a management consultancy?
Our advisers are practising engineers, and our advice is limited to what we could build ourselves. We do not produce strategy documents we could not implement, and we put our reasoning in auditable records rather than presentations.
How small is a sensible first engagement?
A single decision. Many engagements begin with one question — a platform choice, an architecture review, an assessment of a system you already own — framed and answered in writing within weeks, not quarters.
Do you implement your own recommendations?
When asked, yes — the same engineers who advised carry the work into delivery. But every recommendation is written so that your own team, or another firm, could implement it without us.
What do we own when the engagement ends?
Everything. The decision log, the architecture records, the risk register and the standards are yours — written to be read without us in the room.
Will you tell us if we shouldn't proceed?
Yes, and in writing. Declining work — or recommending against a project — is a normal outcome of an honest examination, and it costs less than discovering the same answer after delivery has begun.
It begins with a conversation.
Bring us the decision you are weighing. We will tell you honestly whether we can help — and if we cannot, we will say so before any engagement begins.
